What to expect from a complete skin cancer check?
You will be asked to undress to you underclothes and lay down on a couch for the examination, facial make-up is not advised because this will need to be removed in order to do a proper facial examination. The scalp is also examined thus it is best to avoid pleating or tying the hair back. Shoes and socks are also routinely removed. Avoid applying nail varnish if you have a nail condition.
All skin procedures are performed at our clinic
A gap fee will apply for procedures such as skin biopsy, cosmetic procedures, skin cancer surgery and other skin treatments. Private health insurance is not required.
Please note that if a procedure is deemed purely cosmetic, Medicare does not allow any payment and so a private account will be issued.
Histological assessment is routinely performed via Clinipath pathology on all tissue samples, this service is bulk billed for eligible health care card holders.
We routinely discuss, explain, and give a copy of the histology report to all patients. We will communicate with your regular GP or other specialists if required.
All operations are performed under local anaesthesia in our modern theatre room, sedation is generally not warranted for procedures but can be provided.
Thus, most patient can drive to and from the clinic on the day of the procedure without requiring an extra driver. General anaesthesia is not available at our clinic, thus patient with specific requirements can be referred if warranted.
We perform skin biopsies, simple ellipses, flaps and skin grafts. Facial surgery involving flaps are a routine part of our surgical expertise.
We routinely provide after care after an operation as required at minimal cost to our patients.

Skin Cancer Types
Basal cell carcinoma
This is the most common form of skin cancer but the least dangerous. It appears as a round or flattened lump or scaly spots. They are red, pale, or pearly in color and may become ulcerated, bleed, and fail to heal.
They grow slowly over months or years and are usually found on the upper body, head, or neck. This is also known as non-melanoma skin cancer.
Squamous cell carcinoma
This is less common, but more dangerous than basal cell carcinoma. There is a 1 to 2 per cent chance that can spread and cause death. Look for scaly red areas that may bleed easily, ulcers or non-healing sores that are often painful.
They grow over a period of months and are often found on lips, ears, and scalp. This is also known as non-melanoma skin cancer.
Melanoma skin cancer
This Is the Least common but most serious form of skin cancer. It can appear in a new or an existing spot, freckle, or mole that changes color, size, or shape. It grows over weeks to months anywhere on the body (not just areas that get lots of suns).
If it’s left untreated, cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body. This occurs more frequently on the upper back in males and on the lower leg in females.
